Ash Wednesday Lenten Reflection

From Bridges to Contemplative Living with Thomas Merton Lent and Holy Week:

The Christian conscience, enlightened by the Holy Spirit, tells us that this inner movement of repentance in the privacy of the heart, though it is essential, is not enough by itself. For sin is not a purely individual affair, and neither is pardon. However private it may be, sin remains in some sense everybody’s business because everyone is affected by the evil that is in the heart of one person. It is not possible for us to live so separated from others, so isolated and private in our own hearts, that our secret selfishness and sin will not affect others.

Kitchen Cupboard Soup

Yields: 6 servings

Ingredients
1 can dark kidney beans, drained
1 can garbanzo beans, drained
1 can black beans, drained
chopped veggies (whatever you have on hand, fresh or canned or frozen)
1 can low-salt Italian-style diced tomatoes, including the liquid
seasoning as desired
salt and pepper to taste
diced garlic clove(s), to taste

Preparation
Just throw all the ingredients in the pot and heat through.

Note: I like to add corn, peas, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, celery, onion, etc. to my soup. For seasoning I use no-salt Dash or a similar mixture, and for salt I use LoSalt—potassium-base.
