Ave Explores Series | The Saints Series

This week we explore how learning about saints from all around the world, especially diving into the stories of saints who may have had vastly different experiences than ours, can help us better appreciate the beauty and diversity of the Church.

Diversity of Saints

Gloria Purvis explains that learning the stories of Black, Indigenous, and other diverse saints helps to expand the understanding of holiness in the world. She also shares about the lives of several diverse men and women with open causes for canonization.

The Life and Legacy of Sr. Thea Bowman

Fr. Robert P. Boxie III, discusses the life, legacy, and Cause for Canonization of Sr. Thea Bowman, a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration who lived and worked in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi. Her cause was opened in November 2018. Boxie also shares his vocation story.

My Friendship with St. Oscar Romero

Vanesa Zuleta-Goldberg grew up disliking the saints because she thought they were perfect and looked nothing like her. But then she learned of St. Oscar Romero, who profoundly influenced her outlook on racism and the Church’s fight for social justice. Zuleta-Goldberg also saw that Romero’s struggles mirrored her own and his love for the people of El Salvador reflected her love for the Hispanic community.
