Two to Profess Final Vows in Holy Cross

Rev. Mr. Matthew E. Hovde, C.S.C. and Rev. Mr. Dennis A. Strach II, C.S.C., will profess final vows with the Congregation of Holy Cross at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame.

Rev. Thomas J. O'Hara, C.S.C., provincial superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers, will preside at the Mass and receive their vows. The Mass will be broadcast live on the Notre Dame Campus Ministry website.

Hovde and Strach will then be ordained to the Order of the Deacon at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, in the Moreau Seminary Chapel by Most Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, bishop of Peoria.

Hovde is the youngest of three children of Robert and Cynthia Hovde of Miami, Fla. In 2011, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history/theology from Notre Dame, where he earned a M.Div. in 2015.

During his formation, Hovde served at the Center for Social Concerns at Notre Dame (2012-2013); St. Joseph Parish in South Bend, Indiana (Summer 2013); St. Pius X Parish in Granger, Indiana (2013-2014); the Shrine of Basil Moreau, Le Mans France (Summer 2014); and as assistant director of the Old College Undergraduate Seminary, Notre Dame (2014-2015). He will serve his diaconate year as assistant rector of Sorin College and in campus ministry at Notre Dame.

Strach is the son of Dennis and Carla Strach of Rochester Hills, Michigan. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in 2010, pursued graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in 2010-2011 and earned his M.Div. from the university in 2015.

During his formation, Strach served in Confirmation prep at the Office of Campus Ministry at Notre Dame (2010-2011); completed a summer assignment at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana (summer 2011); and served as chaplain of spiritual care at the Penrose and St. Francis Hospitals, as well as the Namaste Alzheimer Center during his novitiate year in Colorado (2011-2012). Strach served at La Casa de Amistad, South Bend (2012-2013); Fe y Alegria School, Canto Grande, Peru (summer 2013); Marian High School, Mishawaka, Indiana (2013-2014); and in marriage preparation in the Office of Campus Ministry at Notre Dame (2014-2015). Strach will serve as a deacon at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, Austin, Texas.
