Two Men to Be Ordained Holy Cross Priests

Rev. Mr. Matthew E. Hovde, C.S.C., and Rev. Mr. Dennis A. Strach II, C.S.C., will become the two newest priests of The Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers, at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame.

Most Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend, will confer the Sacrament of Holy Orders on the men. The Ordination Mass will be broadcast live online at Ordination-live.holycrossvocations.org.

Hovde and Strach professed their Final Vows in Holy Cross on Aug. 29, 2015.

Hovde is the youngest of three children of Robert and Cynthia Hovde of Miami, Florida. He entered formation with the Congregation in 2007 and professed First Vows on July 28, 2012. He served his diaconate year as assistant rector at Sorin College and in the university’s campus ministry.

Fr. Hovde’s first Mass as a priest will be at 11:45 a.m. April 3, 2016, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Strach is the only son of Dennis and Carla Strach of Rochester Hills, Michigan. He served his diaconate year at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. He entered formation with Holy Cross as a postulant in 2010. He made his First Profession on July 28, 2012.

Fr. Strach will celebrate his first Mass at 10 a.m. April 3, 2016, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
