Sr. Anne Bryan Smollin (1943–2014) was a beloved storyteller with an unforgettable sense of humor. In her final book, The Best Is Yet to Come, Smollin—the author of five books, a gifted motivational speaker, and a trusted counselor—warmly encourages readers to live each moment fully, to discover the sacred in the ordinary, and to remember that the best is yet to come, affirming Christian hope.
In what was to be the last chapter of the book, Sr. Anne Bryan Smollin wanted to tell the story of a woman who wanted to be buried with a fork in her hand. The woman told her husband that at the many potluck church dinners she attended, she was always told to hold onto her fork after the main dish because there was still one more course—dessert. The best was yet to come!
Sr. Anne possessed an uncanny gift to inject new life into familiar words and simple lessons such as “life is a precious gift,” “don’t take yourself too seriously,” and “little things mean a lot.” She reminds us in her final work that no matter how difficult some moments in life can be, the best is yet to come.
In the tradition of her popular books Tickle Your Soul and Live, Laugh, and Be Blessed, Sr. Anne’s down-to-earth wisdom and warm sense of humor once again break through the mundane routine of life, inviting you to wake up and take a fresh look around. Twenty-seven brief chapters will take you on a delightful tour through topics such as keeping perspective, living in the present moment, seeing the connections, and appreciating the past.
The book was written just before Sr. Anne’s untimely death and is being published posthumously in honor of her work and inspiration. Lifelong friend Sr. Patricia St. John, C.S.J., put the finishing touches on this manuscript. In her foreword, Sr. Patti recalls some of Sr. Anne’s personal qualities—her wide-open heart to anyone in need, her delight in simple things, her ability to lovingly focus on each person she met—the same qualities she imparts as you read this book.

"A heartfelt reminder to seek holiness in the everyday."
"Sr. Anne Bryan Smollin was one of the most joyful and effective communicators of the Gospel that I have ever met. She was a force of nature—and of joy. Renowned for her stories, celebrated for her wit, and beloved for her warmth, she was also a terrific writer. Her new book is a heartfelt reminder to seek holiness in the everyday and joy in every moment."
Rev. James Martin, S.J.

"Live each moment fully."
"Anne wrote, 'We are all in this together; be kind to each other; stay positive.' In addition to the signature tag line with which Anne ended all of her lectures—Live well, love much, laugh often—this is a wonderful mantra with which to remember her and the message of this final book: live each moment fully, discover the sacred in the ordinary, and find joy and happiness through the people and events of daily interactions."
From the foreword by Patricia A. St. John, C.S.J.
"Classic Anne Bryan Smollin."
"An opportunity to soften our soul, share a bit of laughter, experience a sacred moment, and change our mood for the better—The Best Is Yet to Come is classic Anne Bryan Smollin and a true spiritual tonic for regaining a healthier perspective in today’s stressful, sometimes anxious world."

"Bubbling over with the energy and grace."
"The cycle of life is a series of endings and beginnings, and each change brings its own gift. Yes, we grieve the loss of an amazing woman—Sr. Anne Bryan Smollin—yet still we rejoice that her vision and passion for sharing joy, laughter, humor, and spirituality are now made accessible to us in her final inspiring and spirit-filled book, The Best Is Yet to Come. This tapestry of reflections and stories woven so beautifully invite us to live fully, to seize life, and to discover God within the ordinariness of daily life—a God who often hides in the surprise and wonder of beauty and blessing around us. Anne’s nurturing words of wisdom frequently spoken at the LA Religious Education Congress and at many other national and international events will now reach the minds and hearts of so many more of God’s people who long for words of hope and encouragement. What a precious collection of reflections, bubbling over with the energy and grace of one who prayed,'‘Please, God, help me to touch one person.'"
