Thomas Grady

Thomas Grady, CEO and Publisher

When did you first come to AVE?

After 25 years in the publishing industry at other organizations, I joined Ave Maria Press in March 2005.

What was your childhood ambition?

First, to be a priest. Then a doctor. And finally, a journalist. I guess I got sort of close!

What famous person do people tell you that you look like?

I tell myself that I look like either the actor Ed Harris or the comedian Larry David, but my wife tells me that in the morning I look like either a wild-eyed Robert E. Lee or Larry of the Three Stooges.

What’s your proudest moment?

Almost any time I get to hear my 32-year-old son, a pianist, and my daughter, a 28-year-old singer, perform together I would consider my happiest moment. My proudest professional moment most recently is when two of Ave Maria Press’s books, Rebuilt  and Atchison Blue, won first-place awards from the Catholic Press Association.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

I am always inspired by the richest and the beauty of the Catholic prayer, devotion, and liturgical traditions.

Your most memorable experience?

My most memorable experience recently was traveling to Ireland with my son and visiting our ancestral home on a small island off the west coast.
