Email Marketing Specialist

The Email Marketing Specialist plays a critical role in advancing Ave Maria Press’s growth and revenue objectives by leading the development and execution of high-impact email marketing campaigns. This position is responsible for growing our email lists, increasing customer engagement and purchase frequency, and driving sales initiatives through strategic, data-driven communications.

The Email Marketing Specialist will plan, create, and analyze campaigns aligned with product launches, seasonal and liturgical promotions (e.g., feast days and holy days), special events, and customer lifecycle marketing. A strong focus on results—particularly increased sales, order value, and list acquisition—is essential for success.

This role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure messaging consistency and alignment with broader business goals. The ideal candidate combines creativity with analytical rigor and has a deep understanding of how email marketing drives engagement and conversion in a faith-based, mission-driven context.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute data-driven email marketing campaigns that directly contribute to customer acquisition, increased sales, and revenue growth.
  • Create and manage the email marketing calendar to ensure consistent communication across all audiences and alignment with promotional and liturgical cycles, product launches, textbook communications, seasonal promotions, newsletters, and liturgical content.
  • Implement strategies to grow and maintain high-quality, segmented subscriber lists, with a focus on expanding Ave Maria Press’s reach with key contacts (e.g., consumers, parishes, schools, bookstores) and converting new audiences.
  • Build and optimize automated email journeys, including welcome series, re-engagement, post-purchase, and cart abandonment, with the goal of increasing average order value and purchase frequency.
  • Lead the planning and execution of promotional campaigns (e.g., discounts, bundles, pre-orders, limited-time offers), measuring and reporting on ROI to inform future strategies.
  • Write compelling, brand-aligned marketing copy and design high-performing emails using the organization’s ESP (e.g., Klaviyo), including dynamic content and personalization.
  • Build and test emails using the organization’s email service provider (e.g., Klaviyo), incorporating dynamic content blocks and personalization as needed.
  • Use A/B testing and data analytics to optimize subject lines, content, layout, and send time to improve open rates, click-through rates, conversions, and revenue per email.
  • Monitor campaign performance and maintain regular reporting dashboards, providing actionable insights and recommendations to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collect, track, and analyze key email metrics; generate regular reports with insights and recommendations to optimize engagement, deliverability, and conversions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable email marketing laws and standards, including CAN-SPAM and GDPR.
  • Maintain list hygiene by managing opt-in preferences and cleaning inactive contacts.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Brand Manager and eCommerce Manager to establish campaign priorities and ensure coordinated messaging.
  • Attend staff meetings, product acquisition meetings, and launch meetings to stay informed on cross-functional initiatives and publishing schedules.
  • Participate in occasional travel for conferences, events, or team collaboration.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in email or digital marketing.
  • Proficiency with email service providers (e.g., Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Constant Contact); Klaviyo experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of email marketing strategies, metrics, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with promotional strategies and ecommerce marketing.
  • Experience with segmentation, automation, and list building to optimize revenue outcomes.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

 

Position Details

  • This is a full-time salaried position. The expected work hours are 37.5 hours per week, between the business hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (ET), Monday through Friday.
