William T. Cavanaugh is a professor of theology at DePaul University in Chicago. He received a bachelor’s in theology from Notre Dame in 1984 and a master’s from the University of Cambridge in 1987. After working as a lay associate with the Congregation of Holy Cross in a poor area of Santiago, Chile, he worked at the Center for Civil and Human Rights at the University of Notre Dame Law School. He then studied at Duke University, where he earned a doctorate in religion in 1996. He taught at the University of St. Thomas beginning in 1995 and at DePaul University from 2010. His areas of specialization are political theology, economic ethics, and ecclesiology.
