Drive-Through Book Signing with Former ND Basketball Coach Muffet McGraw Benefits Girls on the Run Michiana

Former Notre Dame basketball coach Muffet McGraw will sign copies of her new book, Expect More! Dare to Stand Up and Stand Out: A Guide for Women on Reaching Their Potential, at a drive-through book signing from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Ave Maria Press, 1865 Moreau Drive, Notre Dame, Indiana. Proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run Michiana. McGraw retired in 2020 after thirty-three years as head coach of the University of Notre Dame women’s basketball team. She ranks first on the all-time wins list among single-sport coaches in the history of Notre Dame athletics. With an overall record of 936-293, she led the Irish to two national championships (2001, 2018). McGraw’s teams appeared in twenty-six NCAA tournaments, including seventeen Sweet Sixteens, nine Final Fours, and seven championship games. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. In a comment at the 2019 NCAA Final Four press conference that went viral, McGraw said, “We don’t have enough female role models. We don’t have enough visible women leaders. We don’t have enough women in power.” She wasn’t just talking about basketball. In Expect More!, McGraw shares a bold message: It’s time for women to take a rightful and fair place in positions of leadership. In order to do that, she says, women should approach every opportunity not only with confidence but also with swagger. McGraw’s message fits perfectly with the mission of Girls on the Run Michiana. The organization is committed to helping girls know and activate their limitless potential. Girls on the Run Michiana has served more than 2,300 girls in Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties since it began in 2010. Anyone who wears a Notre Dame Women’s Basketball lime green shirt, a Girls on the Run shirt, or completes the following phrase "Girls on the Run is so much __?" will be entered into a drawing for a special prize. Two winners will be randomly selected. Masks are required and no photo opportunities will be available with McGraw. Please remain in your car during the event. During the socially distanced book signing, copies of McGraw’s hardcover book will be available for $15, with $5 of each book going to Girls on the Run Michiana. Fr. Ubald Rugirangoga (May 16, 1955–January 7, 2021)

"You must open the door to your heart so that Jesus can come inside and bring peace and healing. This door unlocks only with the keys of forgiveness and mercy." It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Rev. Ubald Rugirangoga, founder of the Center for the Secret of Peace in Rwanda, and author of Forgiveness Makes You Free. Fr. Ubald died in Utah on January 7, 2021, from complications of COVID-19. He had been in the United States for almost a year because of quarantine restrictions. Fr. Ubald traveled the world performing healing masses, which many attribute to their personal healing from major illnesses. He directed the Center for the Secret of Peace as a way to foster healing and reconciliation following the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. He lost more than eighty of his family members and more than 45,000 parishioners during the genocide. Calling himself "a shepherd to these sheep that have run away and are afraid to follow the shepherd’s voice," Fr. Ubald helped many of those who perpetrated the genocide reconcile with and find forgiveness from the families of those they killed. He said, "I preach it here in Rwanda, and I preach it wherever the opportunity arises elsewhere. For there are other sheep, all over the world, who need to hear this message, that forgiveness is the secret of peace." An ecumenical memorial service is planned for early February at Our Lady of the Mountains in Jackson, Wyoming, which was his home base in the United States. Later in February, Most Rev. David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay will preside at a service at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fr. Ubald’s body will be present for the service. His body will be returned to Rwanda sometime in March and he is expected to be buried at the Center for the Secret of Peace. May Fr. Ubald rest in the Peace of Christ and may those who need healing and forgiveness find it through his intercession. "To decide to forgive, or to decide to beg forgiveness, is often very difficult. On our own, it can be impossible. There is only one sure way to find the strength to forgive those who have wounded us, and that is to decide to live for Jesus. DeLaney to be Installed as Rector of St. Joseph's Oratory on November 22

Rev. Michael McGrath DeLaney, C.S.C.,  a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers, will be installed as rector of Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, Canada, on November 22, 2020. The installation Mass will be broadcast live at 11 a.m. ET on the oratory YouTube channel and Facebook page. A recording will be available to view after the event on the oratory website. DeLaney previously served as director of the Holy Cross Mission Center in Notre Dame, Indiana, and as district superior in Chile. DeLaney also served as superior of the Holy Cross community at the University of Portland as president of Notre Dame High School in Chicago, Illinois. He is succeeding Rev. Claude Grou, C.S.C., who has been rector for the past fifteen years. Saint Joseph's Oratory is a world-famous pilgrimage destination, attracting more than two-million visitors a year. It is the world’s largest shrine dedicated to St. Joseph, a patron of laborers and families, and was founded by St. André Bessette—the first canonized saint of the Congregation of Holy Cross—in 1904.

Circosta Named Publisher, CEO of Ave Maria Press

Karey Circosta has been named publisher and chief executive officer of Ave Maria Press, effective August 31, 2020. Circosta will succeed Tom Grady, who is retiring after fifteen years at Ave. Circosta is the eleventh publisher, third layperson, and first woman to serve in the role in the organization’s 155-year history. “The Board of Directors of Ave Maria Press is excited to have Karey Circosta take on the role of CEO and publisher. She has proven herself as a long-time member of the leadership team of Ave and as associate publisher and director of sales and marketing. In addition to her wide variety of skills and accomplishments, she brings a great devotion to Ave’s Catholic and Holy Cross mission of making God known, loved, and served,” said Rev. Anthony V. Szakaly, C.S.C., chairman of the board. Rev. William M. Circosta earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Mary’s College and an MBA from Bethel University. She received an executive education certificate in book publishing from the Yale School of Management. Circosta is a member of the board of directors of the Association of Catholic Publishers and serves with several community organizations, including the Junior League of South Bend, where she was president. She was a 2008 “40 Under 40” award recipient from the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce. Circosta and her husband Nic have two children and live in the South Bend, Indiana, area, where they are parishioners at St. Joseph Parish.

Five Ave Authors Win First-Place Awards from CPA

Five Ave Maria Press authors were recently honored with first-place awards by the Catholic Press Association. Fourteen authors were given awards overall. Former University of Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz took top honors in the hardcover spirituality books category for Three Rules for Living a Good Life. The Reclaiming Catholic History series was honored in the best new religious books series category. The series includes published books by James L. Papandrea, The Early Church (33-313), and the series editor Mike Aquilina, The Church and the Roman Empire (301-490). Haley Stewart was awarded first place in the backlist beauty category for The Grace of Enough. Taking top honors in the anthology category was Avery Dulles: Essential Writings from America Magazine, which was edited by James T. Keane, a senior editor at America magazine. Other winners include: Claire Swinarski, Girl, Arise!, gender issues, second place Marge Steinhage Fenelon, My Queen, My Mother, pilgrimages/Catholic travel, second place Michael O’Neill and Robert L.
