Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection

Br. Lawrence of the Resurrection (1614–1691) was a seventeenth-century hermit and a member of the Order of Discalced Carmelites in France. He made his solemn profession of vows in August 1642. Br. Lawrence worked in the kitchen at the priory in Paris and then as a sandal maker. The poor, learned, and religious sought spiritual guidance from the man who was known for a profound sense of peace. His wisdom was later collected into The Practice of the Presence of God.
