Description

Explore the life and legacy of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first American citizen to be canonized, through this short yet transformative thirty-day retreat. Cabrini was known for her tireless devotion to orphans, immigrants, and the sick, and her unshakable courage and missionary zeal were driven by her deep love for Jesus and his Sacred Heart.

In Hope Without Borders, you’ll explore the spiritual practices that fueled Cabrini’s remarkable life. Drawing from her journals, letters, and retreat notes, this book provides daily meditations, reflections, and short prayers to guide your journey. Cabrini’s writings, inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, reveal how retreat and prayer became her wellspring of strength, enabling her to persevere in her mission. As Cabrini herself wrote, “It is in retreat that the soul learns to give internal glances at the beauty and goodness of God.”

Whether you’re seeking to deepen your prayer life or reconnect with God amid a busy schedule, Hope Without Borders offers a practical and inspiring path. An excellent addition to the Great Spiritual Teacher series, this book is an accessible companion for anyone looking to root their spiritual practice in the wisdom of the saints.

Let the words and example of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini draw you closer to Christ—the true source of hope and strength.

Mother Cabrinin's example cannot be overlooked!

Hope Without Borders: 30 Days with Frances Xavier Cabrini, is a wonderful addition to the Great Spiritual Teachers series published by Ave Maria Press. Amy J. Catapan does an excellent job of moving us through 30 days of retreat using Mother Cabrini’s own words to guide and inspire us. As a spiritual director, I enjoyed learning about the impact the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius had on Mother Cabrini. We are in need of hope, and this devotional provides it. The example of Mother Cabrini cannot be overlooked. She was a great woman of faith who overcame many obstacles, remaining true to her mission of loving and serving those in need. This book is an ideal way to pray each day and grow closer to the Lord.

    A Beautiful and Relevant Retreat

I'm grateful to Dr. Amy J. Cattapan for writing a resource on the life of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini that goes far beyond a simple retelling of her biography. In Hope Without Borders: 30 Days with Frances Xavier Cabrini, Amy offers us a solid timeline of Mother Cabrini's life, but then takes us into the heart of this book, a thirty-day retreat with the saint's own writings at its core. During this Jubilee Year of Hope, when much of our country and the world feel mired in problems, the spiritual wisdom of Frances Xavier Cabrini remains relevant and introspective. I'm grateful to Amy for providing us with a resource that helps us better know and love this important spiritual leader.

A beautiful opportunity to retreat into the heart of this great saint!

I've read about Mother Cabrini and seen the movie, but this reveals a whole new perspective. Start each day with a reflection selected primarily from Mother Cabrini’s own writings during her personal retreats during long sea voyages. Meditate on a sentence throughout the day before returning in the evening for a closing prayer. The book includes a modest biographical introduction to St. Frances Cabrini including a timeline of her life.

But the heart of this experience are Mother Cabrini’s intimate writings selected for our meditation. These profoundly powerful excerpts draw us into her interior life loving and serving Christ. As we begin to recognize her deep surrender and trust, we find ourselves yearning for this level of faith in our own lives.

Hope Without Borders connected with me personally also. After his death, we discovered my grandfather carried an early photo prayer card of Mother Cabrini that had belonged to his mother who emigrated from Italy at the turn of the 20th century. I can’t help but wonder how their life was personally impacted by this patron saint of immigrants. And now, through Hope Without Borders, I have the opportunity to invite her to personally impact my life also.

    A beautiful journey.

Great way to rest your mind & center your soul back toward Jesus. Mother Cabrini writes that ‘humility works wonders;' walking along side her each day I realized that sometimes we just need to look up and pay attention. I enjoyed how she voyaged to distant lands with such grace, faith, and grit. She’s truly an inspiration. As a healthcare provider and mother, it warmed my heart to see her become a pioneer in the field, establishing many hospitals for everyone. The daily steps were attainable for a busy mom like me, and it didn’t seem too daunting of a task to reflect on the daily message. Thanks for sharing Mother Cabrini’s works of mercy and turning them into a practical way to extend her mission, which ultimately points towards the heart of Jesus.
